Sermon Diagnostics – Sermon Listening Skills Explained

with 11 comments

A great explanation of how to identify a truly Christ-centered sermon, is right at the beginning of this audio. The whole audio is 27 minutes. If you don’t have time to listen to the whole thing right now, just listen to the first few minutes of explanation. If your preacher rarely meets this standard, talk to him about it. If he does not think Christ-centered sermons are a must for a Christian worship service… look for another church.

Around the Corner… The Best of Jonathan Edwards Sermons (Unabridged)

without comments

This month’s free audio-book download from ChristianAudio is The Best of Jonathan Edwards Sermons (Unabridged). LINK

This is a good quality reading and recording. Here is some more information from ChristianAudio.

Author: Jonathan Edwards
Publisher: Hovel Audio
Narrator: David Cochran Heath
Run Time: 3.5 Hrs

The Jonathan Edwards trilogy includes three of the most important sermons ever preached on American soil. Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God is maybe the most important and well-known sermon of his, but also included is A Divine and Supernatural Light describing and illuminating what Edwards describes as a supernatural light imparted by God. His farewell sermon was given in June of 1750 and is a commendation to those who are in the Lord’s service, a plea to maintain unity, avoid dissension and false doctrine, and a call to devote themselves to prayer.

The books they give away are free for only one month. After that they are sold at the regular price. So, go get your’s now!

An Eternal Perspective of Singleness and Childlessness

boy and his puppiesI still strongly relate to the struggles that singles go through, so I want give my high recommendation of John Piper’s recent sermon, Single in Christ: A Name Better Than Sons and Daughters. John Piper, in his usual manner, delivers a serious sermon about singleness and childlessness viewed from an eternal perspective. I was single again for most of my thirties and have remained childless. In my late teens Read the rest of this entry »

Around the Corner… Saint Augustine of Hippo

without comments

I love time travel… via a good book and especially an audiobook. Christian Audio is offering Saint Augustine’s book, “On Christan Doctrine” as a free audiobook download this month. I am already enjoying listening to my copy. It is wonderful to hear such solid doctrine echoing from the past.
